WIND and rain kept revellers at bay in Huddersfield.

Although the police were busy on New Year's Eve, there were no major incidents at all.

Senior officers believe the poor weather certainly helped.

Insp Mark Broadhead, of Huddersfield police, said: "The wind and rain kept things fairly quiet. There were no major brawls or disturbances and no-one was badly hurt."

He said there were only 24 arrests in the 24-hour period which took in New Year's Eve.

He added: "These were for a couple of assaults along with domestic-type incidents and people detained for breach of the peace or being drunk and disorderly.

"By usual New Year's Eve standards it was quiet for us and for the most part it was very good-natured."
