PEOPLE in Huddersfield had a spring in their step at the weekend as they enjoyed some glorious weather.

But make the most of it as the Easter weekend may not be not so good.

The sun shone on hundreds of people taking part in fundraisers for Sport Relief with many more families enjoying the sunshine in the town’s green spaces like Greenhead park.

The fine weather was seen across the country, with some places hitting hotter temperatures than Madrid.

Porthmadog in North Wales saw the warmest temperature, with the mercury reaching 21.7°C (71°F) – making it also hotter than Rome, Athens, Barcelona and Monte Real in Portugal.

Met Office experts described Yorkshire and the East Midlands as the exception for the good weather.

Salendine Nook meteorologist Paul Stevens described temperatures in Huddersfield as very pleasant for March.

“The town has been enjoying some pleasant temperatures of 13°C to 15°C (59°F) – a good four or five degrees above normal for this time of year.

“People have been making the most of the very pleasant afternoons and the fine and sunny weather should continue into the week.”

But many parts of the country – including Huddersfield – have spent the last few mornings covered in a blanket of fog.

At the weekend two people were killed when a bus driver crashed in thick fog on the M5.

Paul said that the early morning fog has had the effect of holding the temperatures back until the early afternoon.

“We’ve had some dense fog and been experiencing two seasons each day,’’ he said.

“The days have started off being dull and chilly but once the sun has managed to burst through the mist has cleared.

“We’ve had these conditions for the last six nights which is quite unusual.

“This will possibly continue into next week with the town having quite a Dickensian feel.

“There’s been visibility of 50 metres so it’s been quite difficult to see in the streets and this can be quite dangerous as we saw with the motorway crash.”

Paul said that the spring-like weather should continue into next week, remaining mostly dry with early morning fog.

But he warned people to make the most of it as he predicts more unsettled weather as we head into Easter.
