A WARNING over "heat-health" for people in Yorkshire has been issued by the Met Office as temperatures look set to soar over the weekend.

The county is rated as having a 50 per cent chance of being the hottest region in the country.

A spokesman said the much higher than average daytime temperatures of up to 30C (86F) would put "extra stress" on the body.

They may cause increased risk of strokes, and problems for those with heart conditions and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases such as asthma.

High night-time temperatures can also mean there is little time for the body to cool down.

The Met Office said: "With many sporting and charity events taking place around the country, the strength of the sun and the combination of heat and humidity will also be important factors."

A warning has not been issued so far for other parts of the country.

This is because there is a lower temperature threshold before a warning is issued in Yorkshire, as people are less used to warm weather.
