HERE are the most viewed stories on www.examiner.co.uk last week:

1) TEARS were shed by Andy Booth’s family when he left the Galpharm turf for the last time.

The ever-popular striker’s final home game was a highly emotional one for the Booth family – along with the thousands of fans who turned out to pay tribute to the 35-year-old.

But there was laughter too as Andy revealed he didn’t know that many of the fans were sporting Andy Booth masks – cut-outs of his own face.

2) A TWO-year-old girl has been knocked down and killed in Brighouse.

The little girl died after the accident near Wellholme Park on Sunday.

Sergeant Garry Alderson of Calderdale Road Traffic Police said the accident happened at 12.50pm on Bradford Road, outside the park.

3) TRAVELLERS have returned to Leeds Road.

Caravans and vehicles have camped in a corner of Leeds Road Retail Park car park.

The travellers arrived on the site on Sunday morning, according to local sources, and left in the afternoon before returning on Monday.

The Examiner visited the site yesterday to find seven caravans, a van, an estate car, several dogs and a kennel.

4) LUCKY the dog was left for dead by cruel owners.

The Patterdale terrier-type had been buried alive in woods at Clayton West, but escaped her stony grave when she was found by a kind-hearted dog walker.

For Les Wood not only rescued the unloved pet, he and partner Anne Jaggar have now given her a new loving home.

5) A DAD was caught drink driving – with his two young children in the car.

A court heard that Richard Williams, 41, of Pavilion Way, Meltham, was driving his children aged seven and three home on a Saturday afternoon when he was stopped by police.

Tests revealed he was more than three times over the legal drink drive limit.

6) KIRKLEES Council’s cabinet agreed on Wednesday to shut Huddersfield Open market’s Brook Street area.

Instead, focus will be on revamping the stalls sheltered by the Victorian canopy.

Stall holders are hoping refurbishments will revitalise the ‘tired’ market.
