A NEW website has been launched to promote Penistone to tourists.

The website, which can be found at www.visitpenistone.co.uk, was launched yesterday by Richard Jones, chief executive of Yorkshire South Tourism, at Cubley Hall in Penistone. The website has been created by the Penistone and District Community Partnership with the aim of bringing more tourists into the town.

It has been designed by Penistone man Stuart Gibbins and has been partly funded by tourist organisation Yorkshire South.

Maureen Harrison, chair of the partnership, said: "We have been working hard to raise the profile of tourism in the district for the last few years and the new website is one of our major projects.

"The site shows the scenery and many visitor attractions around the area in a new and exciting light. Any resultant increase in tourism will bring obvious benefits to the local economy."

As well as listing attractions in the Penistone area, the website will be promoting local produce. Visitors to the site can buy these through the Made In Penistone online shop.
