AN ONLINE petition set up in the wake of Gurmail Singh’s death has so far attracted 159 signatures.

The petition, on the 10 Downing Street website, calls for tougher sentences for people guilty of violent offences against retailers and greater protection for them.

It was launched after Mr Singh, 63, was bludgeoned to death at Cowcliffe Convenience Stores on Cowcliffe Hill Road on February 20.

Five people have been charged with his murder.

Hundreds more signatures have been collected on a paper petition.
