KIRKLEES Council's website has been named as one of the best local authority websites in the UK in an annual survey.

The survey by the Society of IT Managers assessed 467 council websites.

It ranked Kirklees, along with only 22 other authorities, in its top category and the first in the Yorkshire and Humber region to achieve the rating.

Clr Paul Battye, council Cabinet member for customer services said: "This is a great accolade for the web development team and recognition of all the hard work that has been put in over the last year in developing the website.

"It demonstrates our commitment to using a range of different channels to provide customers with what they want from the council, at a time more convenient to them."
