SHOWJUMPER Ellen Whitaker, of the famous Huddersfield sporting dynasty, has got engaged.
She accepted a proposal from actor Henry Cavill, who popped the question on a trip to Hollywood.
The Jersey-born star is set to play Superman in the new film, reportedly called Man Of Steel, due for release next year.
Whitaker is currently in training in a bid to make the British showjumping team for the 2012 Olympics.
She said: “I couldn’t believe it when he asked me to marry him.
“ I thought we were there to celebrate his birthday. It was such a surprise and I am so happy.”
Cavill called Whitaker’s father, Stephen, at home near Barnsley, to ask his permission before getting down on one knee.
Ellen is the niece of top riders John Whitaker and Michael Whitaker
Her fiance made his name appearing in the historical drama The Tudors alongside Jonathan Rhys Meyers.
