A MAN who was found shot dead in a remote lay-by was the victim of a "brutal execution-style murder", detectives said today.
A murder investigation was launched by West Yorkshire Police after a body was found by a member of the public lying next to Litherop Lane, which is near Clayton West, at 10.24pm yesterday.
Police said the body was found out in the open and next to a blue Jaguar car.
Speaking at the scene at a Press conference, Det Supt Chris Thompson said: "This is a brutal execution-style murder and I would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area of Litherop Lane yesterday evening, who may have seen any suspicious activity or who may have any information, to come forward to police."

Mr Thompson said the man had not been formally identified but he believed he was in his mid 40s.
He confirmed the man had suffered gunshot wounds.Related content
He would not confirm whether he believed the man had been shot in the lane or whether the body had been taken there from somewhere else.
At the scene a large number of police officers were today conducting fingertip searches of the surrounding countryside.
Forensic officers and a pathologist in white overalls were examining the lay-by and the Jaguar car, which were partially covered by a white police tent.
