A TAKEAWAY is set to be closed "for some time" after a fire ripped through the building.

Two fire engines were called to Snooty's Pizza Bar on Wakefield Road in Aspley after the blaze broke out at midday.

The fire had started in the range cooker before spreading to the ventilation ducts.

Steve Fealy, assistant district manager for West Yorkshire Fire Service in Kirklees, said: "The damage was quite serious. It's going to be closed for business for some time."

No-one was hurt in the incident.

A Polish woman who was living above the takeaway would have to be found somewhere else to live, Mr Fealy said.

Police helped provide a safe working environment for the firefighters by blocking off one lane of Wakefield Road and preventing it from turning onto Firth Street.
