A PILOT has escaped serious injury after his twin engined diesel plane overshot the runway before take off at Crosland Hill Airfield today.

The incident happened around 11am and the twin-engined diesel aircraft was damaged at the tail.

A spokesman said: "He tried to take off, but realised he wasn’t going to make it. He slammed all on but overshot the runway and ended up in a mud bank. He fortunately came out laughing!"

The man did not need any medical treatment following the crash around 11am.

Investigators from the Air Accident Investigation Branch are currently at the scene.
