HUDDERSFIELD MP Barry Sheerman has welcomed news of enhanced support services for victims of human trafficking.

He has welcomed Government progress toward a UK Action Plan on the problem.

Mr Sheerman said: "The Government's recent announcement of £2.4m in additional funding to expand support services for trafficking victims is a positive step toward combating a growing problem.

"I have received a number of letters on this issue, including correspondence from the Huddersfield Association of Women Graduates.

"I am happy to see that this is an issue that the people of Huddersfield, including myself, take very seriously."

Mr Sheerman

said responses to questions he raised revealed the increased funding will help to establish the first ever 24-hour national outreach service in the UK for victims of trafficking for sexual exploitation and the develop- ment of a resource information pack for victims, service providers, and law enforcement agencies.
