THE Welcome to Yorkshire yacht has stormed into second place in its round the world challenge.

The boat, which has Leonie Sutherland, of Hartshead, on board has been playing a cat and mouse race with the rest of the fleet and has now overtaken Singapore.

The yachts are on the second race of their first leg and heading to Rio de Janeiro.

Gold Coast Australia is leading with only 203 nautical miles to go with Welcome to Yorkshire only 76 miles behind them.

All boats have now completed the Ocean Sprint and are anxiously waiting to find out who has been the quickest overall.

New York is in fourth place and is quickly catching up Singapore.
