EXAMINER feature writer Hilarie Stelfox has scooped a prestigious national beauty journalism award.

She was up against beauty writers from all over the UK to win the Best Regional Article title in the Wella Hair Journalism Awards 2004.

Hilarie, who is responsible for the Examiner's fashion, health and beauty pages, received her award and a cheque for £500 at a ceremony in London attended by representatives from many of the UK's leading hair and beauty magazines.

The Wella awards recognise outstanding contributions to journalism and are won by many of the big names in beauty journalism from publications such as Vogue and Cosmopolitan.

However, when the awards were launched six years ago, it was decided to include a category to also reward regional journalists.

Among the judges of this year's awards were fashion writer, TV presenter and lecturer Caryn Franklin, International Group Director of Toni&Guy Sacha Mascolo-Tarbuck and UK Creative Director for Vidal Sassoon Salons Mark Hayes.

Hilarie's article 'Straight Talking' discussed the hair- straightening phenomenon and explained how to master the art of 'ironing' hair while preventing damage from repeated use of straightening irons.

This is not the first time Hilarie's talents have been rewarded. In 2000 she was Best Regional Journalist in the Jasmine Awards, seeking inspirational articles on fragrances.
