HUDDERSFIELD Carnival organisers and bus firms have apologised in advance for the disruption which the event will cause to services tomorrow.

The carnival parade will bring much of the town centre to a halt in the afternoon.

But because of the recent exceptional rainfall the carnival has been diverted away from the waterlogged Greenhead Park.

Instead, the spectacular parade will march from Great Northern Street at Hillhouse and back via the town centre and Leeds Road.

Bus operators say this will cause slight delays to traffic and buses running between 1.30pm and 4pm, as several streets will be closed to allow the parade to pass through.

People have been advised to enjoy the carnival until late afternoon, when traffic will return to normal.

The parade leaves the Hudawi Centre in Great Northern Street at 1pm.

The route is along Hillhouse Lane, Willow Lane, St John’s Road, John William Street, New Street, Cloth Hall Street, Market Street, Railway Street, St George’s Square, Northumberland Street, Leeds Road, and then back to Great Northern Street.

The wet weather has also put paid to the annual Kirklees Asian Mela, which was due to take place in Greenhead Park on Sunday.
