A SCHEME to reassure West Yorkshire people dealing with car dealers and garages has won national recognition.

The Motor Trade Partnership run by West Yorkshire Trading Standards encourages motor traders to seek membership by making a commitment to high levels of customer service – helping boost confidence among consumers.

A number of Huddersfield garages and dealers have joined the partnership, which was set up in 2000.

Now the partnership has been accepted into the Local Authority Assured Trader Scheme Network, a national initiative backed by the Office of Fair Trading to help customers make informed choices when buying goods and services.

The “stamp of approval” recognises the impact of the West Yorkshire scheme in helping consumers find a business they can trust, offering help and advice when things go wrong and enabling local firms to show they have signed up to national standards.

Chief trading standards officer Graham Hebblethwaite said: “We are pleased to receive this national recognition. This can only increase members’ and consumers’ confidence in this scheme.”
