West Yorkshire Police has issued a warning to businesses about unsolicited advertising phone calls purporting to be for the force's own magazine.

A spokesman said: "The force does not publish or distribute any other “emergency services” publications.

"Businesses which are approached by companies who claim to be selling advertising space in police publications should be aware that these offers are NOT supported by West Yorkshire Police unless specifically authorised by the force in writing.

"The force advises businesses to be on their guard against calls from individuals claiming to be calling on behalf of West Yorkshire Police. If you are contacted, take the callers name and inform them that you will call them back through the police call centre to verify their identity.

"If contacted by a cold caller do not part with any money unless you know exactly what you are paying for. Carry out an independent check to verify the caller is who they say they are and ask to see a copy of previous publications."

If you have received any calls, please report any suspicious calls to http://www.actionfraud.police.uk and contact Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline number of 03454 040506 for advice.
