POLICE from China have travelled thousands of miles to learn tips from West Yorkshire officers.

Six senior police figures visited the region to find out how police here are tackling drug crime and recovering the assets of criminals.

West Yorkshire was the only police force visited by the group – last Tuesday – as part of a four-day trip to the UK.

Detectives delivered a number of presentations focusing on the force’s commitment to tackling drug crime along with asset recovery and training officers to probe drugs activity.

Crime head Det Chief Supt Howard Crowther said: “It has been a pleasure to welcome our colleagues from China into West Yorkshire to see how we conduct investigations. It’s not every day you get chance to speak to police officers from other countries in order to share best practice.

“It is important that we can learn from each other as tackling crime is a worldwide issue.”

Mr Wu Yongwen, president of Hubei Province public security department and the deputy director of Hubei Province narcotics control commission, said that the trip to West Yorkshire has been a real success.
