TRADING standards officers are offering free training to Huddersfield organisations to help them tackle doorstep crime.

Education officers from West Yorkshire Trading Standards Service will begin by training West Yorkshire Police today.

The course will be at Holmfirth Police Station in Holmfirth and will focus on tackling rogue traders, doorstep crime and cold calling.

Kirklees currently has 12 Cold Calling Control Zones which have been set up over the last five years.

The zones are supposed to deter salesmen and charity collectors from calling at houses uninvited.

However Trading Standards say rogue traders continue to target residents in their own homes.

Graham Hebblethwaite, chief officer, said:

“Protecting the vulnerable is very important and we will continue to work with organisations in order to achieve this.”
