A SENIOR councillor will not take part in a major education decision.

Kirklees Council is drawing up plans to spend £200m of Government money on schools in Mirfield, Dewsbury, Batley and Spen Valley.

But deputy leader Clr Kath Pinnock will not take part in the decision as she is chairman of governors at Whitcliffe Mount School in Cleckheaton.

She said: “I won’t be involved in any discussions, either formal or informal.”

The Cleckheaton Lib Dem was not at last week’s Kirklees Cabinet meeting in Dewsbury Town Hall when the schools plan was given the green light.

The plan includes increasing pupil numbers at Whitcliffe Mount from 1,200 to 1,500.

Clr Pinnock said: “I’ve never attended meetings where decisions have been made and I’m happy that I’ve always declared my interest.”
