MORRIS men welcomed in the first day of May with a traditional dance at a Huddersfield beauty spot.

Some 30 dancers met on Castle Hill in Almondbury at 5.20am yesterday morning to watch the sun rise while they danced.

Andrew Titley, member of the White Rose Morris Men, said he was glad of the dry weather.

He said: “It was excellent – we had a very good morning.

“We danced for about three quarters of an hour.

“It passed without much incident – there was only one minor injury.”

Andrew explained that unfortunately a female dancer from Sheffield who had joined in with the main group hurt her ankle in a rabbit hole, but is now recovering well.

The White Rose Morris Men are set to go to Westminster next weekend for a dance event and will perform at Shepley Spring Festival later this month.
