A WIDOW is angry that workmen suddenly stopped work at her council house.

They refurbished the house, coming every day for a month, without fail.

But then they stopped, saying the job was finished.

Brenda Jennings, 62, of Roundway, Honley, was left with a house in a mess.

Contractors from Enterprise, who are carrying out the Better Homes programme, arrived efficiently every day in July. But August saw them vanish.

"Nothing happened for four weeks," said Mrs Jennings.

The workers were fitting a kitchen and central heating. They left two holes in the kitchen wall and one in the lounge.

A radiator and boiler had to be moved, while heating pipes needed to be boxed in and tiling finished.

Mrs Jennings could not put her fridge back, or replace, the carpet until all the work was done.

She complained - and a supervisor came and said the work was done.

A Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing spokes- woman said: "A KNH officer visited Mrs Jennings last Thursday. Enterprise's supervisor identified that the central heating boiler needed to be re-sited.

"Enterprise acknowledged delays in this."

The work was done on Friday to Mrs Jennings's satisfaction, she added.
