ONCE upon a time in Cowlersley...

There were no cars and the village was home to a huge tripe factory.

Willy Woodward, 77, met children at Cowlersley Primary School to talk about what life was like when he was their age.

Willy has been working alongside community artist Kate Genever to shed light on the history of the area.

The pair took photos of the houses, buildings and places which Willy remembered when growing up.

They made a cloth book full of photos printed on to the fabric, which they showed off to the children.

Pupils then got to ask Willy questions including what old-fashioned play equipment was like.

Year 4 teacher Georgina Rothery said: "Willy has got a fantastic memory and it's something that would ultimately be lost had they not got those memories out of him."

Kate Genever asked for help from the elderly in the art project and Willy was one of very few people to respond.
