PLANS to more than double the height of wind turbines at a hill-side beauty spot which can be seen from Huddersfield and other locations up to 35 miles away will go before Calderdale councillors today.

One of the area’s longest established wind farms, at Ovenden Moor, currently has 23 turbines which have been in situ for 18 years.

A report shows the wind farm can be seen from a 35mile radius of the wind turbines, including parts of Huddersfield, Bradford and Bronte country.

Energy company E.on, want to replace the 23 48.9m turbines with nine larger 115m machines.

Calderdale councillors on the planning committee will consider the application today. Officers have recommended it for approval.

If they back it, the application would need to be referred to the Secretary of State for Community and Local Government.

The council has received 108 letters of objection and seven in support.
