OPPONENTS fighting plans for a wind farm are gearing up for a public meeting next week.

Two turbines are being proposed for a site in the Pool Hill area of Denby Dale.

Campaigners who fear they will be affected by noise say the land is too close to homes.

The public meeting is at 7pm next Tuesday in Scissett Working Men's Club on Wakefield Road.

It is being held by protest group Residents Against Windfarm (Raw).

Spokesman Mike Bickerdike said: "The whole issue of wind turbines and their feasibility is slowly becoming a national issue.

"The more you look into the facts, the more apparent it is that they are not as green as they are cracked up to be."

Parish councillors have arranged another public meeting on the issue.

It will be at 7.30pm on Tuesday, September 21, in St Augustine's Church, Busker Lane, Scissett.

Alpha Wind, the Danish company behind the plan, says turbines are good for the environment and make economic sense.
