AN ELLAND farmer has applied for permission for two wind turbines.

Terence Knowles is seeking planning approval for two micro scale wind turbines which will be 14.97m tall with 5.6m diameter blades for his farm at New Bailey Farm, Broom Hill Road, Sowood.

A report, to be presented to Calderdale planners, says that each turbine will be 134m away from the nearest neighbours and 124m away from Forest Hill Road.

The report said the tower was the required height to capture the wind energy.

Mr Knowles application predicts each turbine will generate an average of 8.54 MWh of electricity each year, the equivalent to a saving of 4.58 tonnes of carbon dioxide.

The application will be considered by council planners in the new year.
