MOTORISTS who do not de-ice their windscreens before setting off could end up killing someone.

The warning comes as police see more and more drivers setting off for work with ice still obscuring their view. If caught, the drivers face a £30 fixed penalty fine.

But if the obscured windscreen leads to a crash - or even a death - they could face charges up to causing death by dangerous driving.

Pc Phil Shaw, of Huddersfield traffic police, said: "People should think about the possible consequences of setting off without being able to see where they are going.

If they hurt or killed someone they would never forgive themselves and always regret not taking a couple of minutes to clear and demist their windscreen."
