A YOUNG Examiner Community Award winner has raised more money for charity.

Selfless David Cockroft slept in the school hall at Westborough High School, Dewsbury, to raise money for the homeless crisis fund.

David, 14, who was last month named young personality of the year for his fundraising, organised the sleepover with staff and 32 fellow students at the school.

David, of Dewsbury Moor, said: "We all huddled together to keep warm. We all made new friends, ate supper, played guitars and told ghost stories.

"We have all agreed that we are going to do it again, but when its warm, because it was too cold."

The event raised around £200.

David is always helping others and last month received his Examiner award at a glittering ceremony held at the Galpharm Stadium.

He helps Year 7 pupils learn their timetables and listens to them read.

He also grows organic vegetables in his school's kitchen garden and teaches younger students African drumming.

He is also a tireless fundraiser for orphans in South Africa.
