Scissett FC is a club run by volunteers. We’re based at Nortonthorpe Sports Club. Scissett FC has been around for over 100 years and is maintained by the players and volunteers / family / friends who help with the running of this football club.

We are a youth brass band for players up to 18 years old. We promote music through social activities and enjoy playing in concerts and contests around West Yorkshire. The band rehearses on a Thursday evening at Shelley Methodist Church Hall from 7:30 and new members are always welcome

Self Management of Pain Group
We are a social group of 12 members, which includes partners. Some of us suffer from long term and chronic pain, but all with different conditions. We meet monthly for a meal out and sometimes go out for the day.

Shelley Art Group
Our aim is to provide a relaxing atmosphere for members to enjoy their own art development. We welcome all ages and abilities. Interest is provided by varied demonstrations and workshops. Our popular annual exhibition promotes local arts and crafts. Assistance is given to the local art scene.

Shelley Junior Bowling Team
Shepley Junior Bowls team consists of approx 14 members aged between 10 years and 15 year old girls and boys. They are in two teams and play in the Huddersfield Junior Crown Green Bowling League. Some of them have excelled over the last three years and are now members of the Yorkshire squad.

Shepley First School, a popular and successful primary school for pupils aged 4 - 10, situated in the village of Shepley. We aim to create a positive learning environment where the children feel included, valued, happy and secure, where they experience and develop high self-esteem and confidence in their own abilities.

Skate 4 Isaac
A group of teenagers, their families and friends are raising £55,000. The teenagers started this over a year ago but one of the members died and they now want to do this in his memory. They have raised over £17,000 so far with various fundraising activities.

Skelmanthorpe Brass Band Community
The Skelmanthorpe Brass Band Community exists to bring people together to play brass and percussion music. We have members aged from 5 to 87 years old and welcome players of all abilities. We have three brass bands, various tuition groups and a percussion group.

We are a group of young girls aged between 7-10 years old. We meet every Monday evening and have loads of fun. We want to revamp the garden areas of the community centre and work towards our gardening badge.

Slaithwaite Brass Band
Slaithwaite Band is an amateur group of brass players. We come together for the common purpose of enjoying music, creating and sharing our pleasure with the local community and further afield. It is an important part of the local and Yorkshire heritage. Membership is open to all members of the community.

Slaithwaite Philharmonic Orchestra
Slaithwaite Philharmonic Orchestra is 122 years old and is a non-professional, symphony orchestra with over 60 playing members. Each year it puts on a series of four orchestral concerts in Huddersfield’s Town Hall as well as other smaller concerts in other venues.
Slaithwaite Scout Group (33rd Huddersfield South West)
33rd Slaithwaite Scout Group is part of the UK Scout Association and has over 100 young members aged 6-18; both boys and girls who take part in activities every week! We provide fun, challenging and adventurous activities and personal development opportunities for people in a co-educational setting.

J’s provides a safe, caring environment for children, from two schools, before and after school.

We are an amateur rugby league club based in Fartown. We currently run teams at Under 8's, Under 11's, Under 12's girls, Under 14's girls, Under 16's girls, Under 18's and Open Age. In addition, we run informal drop in touch rugby sessions for anyone aged 16 and over.

This is a lively group for 8 to 12 year olds supported by St. George's church but is an activity based group. The young people carry out arts and crafts projects, sporting and gardening activities and support the annual St. George's Day Community Parade.

Talkthru offers free, non-judgmental, confidential counselling support to those facing unplanned pregnancy or who have lost a baby due to miscarriage, neonatal death or stillbirth, termination (including termination for foetal abnormalities) or through adoption. We also supply free, good quality, used baby clothes and equipment to families facing financial hardship.

We started the charity after my son, Travis was born with complications which caused him to have brain damage. This inspired us to start the charity to help as many children and families as we can.

We support elderly and isolated people. Our three, seven year old minibuses need replacing. They are used by us and other local groups for shopping, social outings and also to bring people to support services at our Centres. 14,000 passenger journeys were provided last year.

The Elderberry Club
We are a club for elderly people in the Fartown / Birkby / Cowcliffe area organised by two Methodist churches but completely independent. We aim to get them out of their homes and to socialise with other people. We organise events every month or so and try to vary events with meetings and outings.

The Trust offers financial assistance to parents bereaved of a child. Whilst as parents we try to plan ahead for all eventualities, it is extremely rare that a parent makes financial provision for the death of a child. This is where the Trust comes in.

The Welcome Centre helps people in crisis in the Huddersfield area providing them with emergency food, warm clothing and other basic household essentials. It relies on donations and is run by a small staff and a team of amazing volunteers helping those in desperate need.

YKRF relying entirely on donations, voluntary support and legacies, supports research to improve the lives of adults and children who suffer from kidney disease. Run by local people affected by kidney disease, from humble beginnings in 1970, we now fund international-rated work improving the outlook for kidney patients.

United Churches Healing Ministry
We offer a professional counselling service to anyone in need on a donations basis. We also have our own counsellor training programme and hire our sports hall and counselling, training and group rooms to local individuals and community groups, and have a charity shop in the centre of Milnsbridge.

Vocal Expressions Ladies Choir
The ladies choir is very active in the local area recruiting new members and sharing with them the love of making music together. Local concerts and fundraising events are a priority as well as singing in local pubs at Christmas to engender community involvement.

We are a local, charity run, playgroup who provide childcare for children aged 2-5. We provide free nursery funding for children aged 2 and 3+ and rely solely on donations and fundraising to enable us to run. We have a good OFSTED rating and we’d like to cater for more children from deprived backgrounds.

Wooldale Community Centre
Wooldale Community Centre is a long established community centre providing a base from which many different groups provide a diverse range of services for the local community. Groups include music sessions, table tennis, Pre-school, Mother and baby group, Sure Start services, bridge club, dance groups, Huddersfield and District Wood Turners and Wooldale Carvers.

One year ago, a group of friends met to discuss the possibility of a meals on wheels service in Wooldale and the surrounding Holmfirth area. We recruited volunteers and agreed to start with a fish and chips / sandwich service. Now we look forward to offering hot meals every Friday.

We are a social group for the elderly. We have raffles, bingo, tea and scones plus occasional day trips out. We give the elderly a chance to get out and meet up with friends.

Yetton Together is the community group for Kirkheaton. Over the next few years we aim to regenerate our old community centre to provide more facilities for local groups as well as continuing to improve the general appearance of the whole area with communal planting etc.

Yorkshire Air Ambulance provides a life-saving, rapid response emergency service 365 days a year. The two helicopters and air crews are on standby to attend trauma incidents as and when required. This provision supplements the work of the statutory emergency services and is funded entirely through voluntary donations.
