Police are appealing for witnesses after a teenager died following a collision in Thongsbridge on Friday evening.

At around 6.15pm, the teenager was walking along Springwood Road when she left the pavement and went into the road.

As a result she there was a collision with a Nissan Cabstar tipper van.

The pedestrian died at the scene. She has not yet been formally identified but is believed to be an 18-year-old woman from the local area.

Detective Sergeant Carole Greaves, of West Yorkshire Police's Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: "As part of our enquiries we are keen to speak to anyone who either witnessed the collision itself or who believes they saw the vehicle or pedestrian involved immediately prior to the collision.

"Any information should be passed to myself in the Major Collision Enquiry Team via 101."
