A woman of 70 was attacked in her Kirklees home by intruders.
Two of three burglars grabbed the woman and assaulted her as she disturbed them in the house in Bunkers Lane, Batley.
The woman had been in bed when the men broke in in the early hours of Friday. They fled when her husband appeared.
Police said the woman heard a noise at 1am and went downstairs to investigate with her daughter.
When on the first floor landing she saw three men who had broken into the house. Two of the men ran upstairs, grabbed the victim and assaulted her while demanding property.
The woman was not seriously injured in the incident but was very shocked and upset.
Det Con Constable Richard Brooke of Kirklees CID, said: “This is clearly a very serious offence in which a 70-year-old woman has been assaulted in her own home and it is important we locate the men responsible as quickly as possible
“All three were described as white and wearing dark clothing, and made off in the direction of Abbey Road.”
