THE girlfriend of a self-confessed kidnapper has been cleared by a jury of involvement in the plot to hold a teenage student hostage at a Huddersfield house and demand a ransom from his millionaire parents.
A jury at Bradford Crown Crown yesterday returned not guilty verdicts on charges of conspiracy to kidnap and conspiracy to blackmail in the case of 24-year-old London woman Min Fang He. Her boyfriend Ting Fu Guo, 26, of no fixed abode, and his accomplice 26-year-old Qun Xue, of Springdale Avenue, Thornton Lodge, have already admitted the two charges which arise out of the abduction of 18-year-old Lishui Wu earlier this year.
The teenager, who was studying at a business school in London, was lured to West Yorkshire and held hostage at a house in Manor Street, Newsome for five days during which a ransom demand for $2m was made to his parents in China.
He was eventually freed following a police operation.
Back in August He went on trial alongside Xue’s girlfriend 28-year-old Hong Zhu, from London, and two other men 21-year-old Hang Yu, also from London, and 38-year-old Ming Ming Zheng, of Springdale Street, Thornton Lodge.
All the defendants denied the two conspiracy charges and after further deliberations yesterday Judge Jonathan Rose sent the jury home without them reaching any further verdicts against the three remaining defendants.
The jury will resume their consideration of the evidence today.
