A WOMAN aged 33 from Deighton is to appear before Huddersfield magistrates on March 31, charged with perverting the course of justice.

The charge follows a police investigation into what turned out to be a false allegation of rape which was made on February 9 this year.

A 23-year-old Sheepridge man, Marco Fatah, last week spoke of his ordeal after being arrested over the allegations.

Police confirmed the alleged sex attack never happened.

Mr Fatah, an Iraqi refugee who married a Huddersfield girl in January, described how he was arrested as he worked at a local shop.

He said: "I fled Iraq to avoid persecution and now I feel to have been persecuted again.

"I have worked hard in this community to settle and have got a job at which I work hard."
