A WOMAN had to be cut free from her crushed car after a crash in Fenay Bridge.

She was hurt when her Toyota Yaris was hit by a Ford Fiesta coming down Woodsome Road from Farnley Tyas at 10.20am yesterday.

Police said the Ford was driven by a 17-year-old Crosland Moor youth, who was unhurt.

It clipped a kerb and hit a verge before careering sideways into the Toyota near a sharp bend and narrow bridge.

The 36-year-old Thongsbridge woman driving the Toyota suffered a cracked vertebra and injured knee.

The car was dismantled so she could be gently lifted from it.

A Huddersfield fire station spokesman said:

"We removed a side and the roof of the car and took the woman out."

The youth had two teenage friends with him. They suffered cuts and bruises.
