AN 82-year-old woman stopped a man who tried to trick his way into her home.

The women answered a knock at her door in Reinwood Avenue, Oakes, at 3.15pm on Friday.

The man put his foot in the door and tried to walk into the house, claiming he was a meter reader.

But the woman made him go.

Pc Dave McSwee- ney, of Huddersfield police, said: "The woman did very well to keep the man out and we would urge others to learn from her actions. Never let strangers into your home no matter how plausible they appear to be.

"We would like to speak to anyone else who may have been approached by this man."

He was white, in his late 30s or early 40s, 5ft 6in and stocky.

He was scruffy with pointed features.
