A WOMAN and her little dog have been killed in a road tragedy.

The 64-year-old pedestrian was struck by a lorry and then ended up beneath a van in the horror accident early yesterday afternoon.

The dark articulated lorry carried on, but the black Toyota Hiace van stopped.

The tragedy happened on Wakefield Road in Dewsbury, at its junction with Bywell Road, just before 1pm yesterday.

Police want anyone who saw the lorry or the accident to come forward.

A spokeswoman said: "The woman was in collision with two vehicles and the lorry failed to stop.

"She was pronounced dead at the scene and taken to Dewsbury District Hospital.

"She comes from the Earlsheaton area and was due to be formally identified today.

"Her small terrier dog was also killed," the spokeswoman added.

Wakefield Road was closed for the rest of the day while accident investigation experts worked at the scene.
