A WOMAN has been killed by a train at Slaithwaite.

Police and rail officials were called to Slaithwaite rail station and launched an immediate inquiry into the incident, which is thought happened just before 11.30am.

Train services between Huddersfield and Marsden were halted after the accident.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: "Officers from BTP and West Yorkshire Police attended the incident, which was reported to police at 11.28am and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

"Paramedics from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service also attended but the woman, believed to be in her 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"A file will be prepared for the coroner."

The train involved was the 10.35am Manchester Airport to Middlesborough service.
