A DEBT collector was robbed in Lowerhouses last night.

The 38-year-old woman had called at a house in Fanny Moor Lane, Lowerhouses, at 7.40pm after parking her car but was asked to return a short time later.

She returned to her car and then set off back to the house, walking along a footpath by a caravan.

But a man then appeared from behind the caravan and grabbed hold of her arms and threw her into bushes. The thief grabbed a bum-bag containing cash and ran off.

The woman's son, who was with her at the time, ran after the suspect but lost him. As the robber fled he ran into the path of a red van being driven along New Laithe Hill and police are keen to speak to the driver of the van.

The police helicopter was called out to join in the search.

The woman suffered bruising and scratches to her upper arms and lower back.

Police said the suspect was white, aged 20 to 35, stocky, 5ft 10in tall, with short light brown hair. He wore a black baggy hooded top, black Adidas bottoms with white stripes down the side and dirty white trainers with a blue logo.
