A woman stole from a shop with the aid of a de-tagging device she’d discovered on Facebook.

Emma Heaney, 36, pleaded guilty to theft when she appeared at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court.

On May 28 she stole £267 worth of perfume and cosmetics from Boots in Huddersfield town centre.

All of the goods taken from the King Street branch were recovered.

Magistrates heard that Heaney used a special de-tagging device to steal the items.

She purchased it online after hearing about it on Facebook.

Heaney said that she became intrigued and got a ‘buzz’ from stealing.

Magistrates sentenced Heaney, of Barrington Parade in Cleckheaton, to a six-month community order with 10 days of rehabilitation activities.

She also has to pay £70 fine, £85 costs and £85 victim surcharge.

The de-tagging device will be forfeited and destroyed.*
