A WOMAN was taken to hospital after a house fire which might have been started deliberately.

Fire crews were called to a house on Barber Walk in Dewsbury just before 3pm yesterday and found a first floor bedroom on fire.

The woman had managed to escape the fire but was suffering from breathing difficulties so an ambulance was called and she was taken to Dewsbury and District Hospital for a check-up.

Four firefighters from Dewsbury Fire Station wore breathing apparatus to enter the house and put the flames out.

The whole of the first floor was smoke damaged with two rooms heavily damaged by fire.

Crew manager Steve Mitchell said: “The bedroom of the house was on fire but thankfully nobody was badly injured.

“The cause of the fire is still under investigation but the suspicion is it was a deliberate ignition.”

Fire crews were at the scene for three hours putting the fire out and clearing smoke from the property.

They also called on neighbouring properties to check for smoke alarms and give advice.
