A YOUNG woman may lose the sight of an eye after she was caught up in a fight at a Huddersfield town centre bar.

The 28-year-old was leaving the women's toilets in Revolution on Cross Church Street when she was hit in the eye by a piece of flying glass at 12.30am on Saturday.

The woman, who lives in Huddersfield, was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, then transferred to the Calderdale Royal Hospital in Halifax, where she had surgery.

Det Insp Steve Hepplestone, of Huddersfield CID, said: "The woman had gone to the bar with friends who were standing near the dance floor.

"As she came out of the toilets, a disturbance was taking place.

"It developed very quickly, with bottles and glasses thrown around.

"A substantial piece of glass hit the woman in the right eye, causing her a serious injury," he added.

"She was taken to the Calderdale Royal, where she was operated on.

"A group of African- Caribbean men left the pub immediately after the incident.

"We want anybody in the pub who saw what happened to come forward," said Det Insp Hepplestone.
