Two women arrested in connection with the shooting of a man in Huddersfield have been bailed.

Police swooped in Birkby on Friday and detained the women aged 31, and 34 on on suspicion of assisting an offender.

They have since been released on bail.

Police inquires are continuing in relation to the shooting which happened on Tuesday March 11 at 9.30pm.

The victim, a 31-year-old man, named as Arfan Mehmood in a court hearing relating to the incident, was rushed to hospital following the attack.

He was blasted with a shot gun through a closed window of the Audi A3 he was sitting in when it was parked in Springwood Avenue.

Mr Mehmood remains in a critical condition in hospital. Hamed Hussain, 24, of Clara Street, Hillhouse, was remanded into custody on suspicion of conspiracy to commit attempted murder.

He will appear at Leeds Crown Court on March 28.
