WOMEN cricketers was the theme of a seminar at the University of Huddersfield.
Pioneering cricket historian Dr Philippa Velija, pictured right, gave the provocatively titled talk They’re all male chauvinistic chumps – Howzat for a view? to an audience of sports fans.
Dr Velija is a senior lecturer in Sociology at York St John University.
She looked at media representations of female cricketers from 1998-2008 as part of the University of Huddersfield’s Cricket Research Centre guest lecture series, of which this was the third this year.
