HAPPY, Healthy and Female is the theme of this year's Kirklees International Women's Day Festival.

And today women in Huddersfield were being encouraged to take part in a day of celebrations.

International Women's Day is about raising awareness of issues central to women, celebrating women's achievements, networking and building links across the community.

One of today's main events was an all-women demonstration ride by the Huddersfield branch of the Motorcycle Action Group.

The women were riding from Wakefield Road, Moldgreen, to Lord Street in the town centre, to encourage other women to use motorbikes.

Today's activities also included an arts and crafts fair, tasting of exotic food and music at the Methodist Mission on Lord Street.

In Huddersfield Parish Church crypt there were free sessions of Indian head massage, reiki, reflexology and massage.

An information market was being held outdoors on Byram Street.

Creative writing workshops were being held at the Hudawi Centre on Great Northern Street, Hillhouse. The centre was also holding a Happy, Healthy and Female celebration.

A Get Up and Go Day was being held at the Deighton Centre.

A similar day of activities will be held in Dewsbury on Saturday, March 19.
