THE achievements of Huddersfield's women graduates were honoured at a special ceremony.

The Association of Women Graduates presented local student Michelle Kelly, 25, with the title of woman graduate of the year.

Miss Kelly, originally from Stoke-on-Trent, is studying for a PhD in cellular biology at Huddersfield University.

Mrs Lynn Free, association president, said the committee had a tough choice this year.

She said: "We had a larger number of applicants than usual - and all were of a very high standard.

"It's very difficult to compare one candidate with another, but we voted and Michelle came out on top.

"We were impressed that she had made a presentation in Europe about the valuable work she has been doing and she can talk about and present her work well."
