AN advice service for women is celebrating 25 years in Kirklees.
WomenCentre was set up in 1985 to support women who had experienced domestic violence and were in need of ongoing support after leaving local refuges.
Over the years, services were extended and the name changed to Womenspace, to include drop-ins, counselling and learning and volunteering opportunities.
Hundreds of women each year have been helped by the advice service.
Two years ago Womenspace merged with Calderdale Women’s Centre to form WomenCentre.
WomenCentre runs its services from a town centre base in Huddersfield and another in Dewsbury town centre.
The organisation hopes to reach deeper into communities in North Kirklees over the next few years.
