WOMEN in Huddersfield are being offered free training courses by Leeds Metropolitan University as part of a new scheme.

They will have the opportunity to attend classes in their own communities to gain certificates, which can form the first part of a degree.

The courses are supported by the European Union Social Fund. They are in personal and professional skills, management in health and social care organisations and e-business and offer practical skills, which can be used in the workplace or in day-to-day life.

Julie Harpin, of the Leeds Met Training organisation, said the courses aimed to "equip women with the skills and confidence to help them to reach their full potential."

Places are available on the management in health and social care organisations course. Classes are from 10am to 1pm on Wednesdays at Huddersfield women's support service Womenspace in Railway Street. The course begins on March 17.
