THE Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team was called out to its 46th search of the year over the weekend.

Members spent Saturday lunchtime searching for a 26-year-old man at Langsett Moor.

He had fallen over the handle bars of his bike and broken his collar bone, but the team had to walk more than two miles to find him.

After sending team members out to Coldwell Clough High, new information revealed he was on the other side of the Cut Gate track on Mickleden Moor, some three kilometres from the first location.

Mike France, from the team, said: “These are the problems we can be faced with in Mountain Rescue. People think they know where they are, but for the team to walk an extra 3km with stretcher and medical kit can take time.”

Colleagues from Edale and Buxton Mountain Rescue teams were dealing with two climbing accidents at Stanage Edge near Ladybower Reservoir and both the Yorkshire and East Midlands air ambulances were in use elsewhere.
