A VOLUNTEER search and rescue team has received a royal reward for its efforts.

Members of the Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal from the Queen’s representative, The Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire, David Moody, at their Hepworth headquarters.

The medal is awarded to members of the emergency and armed services who clock up five years’ continuous service.

The team’s founding member and chairman, Barry Gregory, said: “We don’t join mountain rescue to be rewarded as we do it to help people and that is rewarding enough. However, it was nice to be recognised for the work we do in the community.”
