MEMBERS of Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team have been trained to carry out water rescues as well.
Three members were in the Yorkshire Dales and the north east at the weekend to qualify as swift water and flood rescue technicians.
It comes after the team played a key role evacuating people during the South Yorkshire Floods in 2007.
The qualification is recognised by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and the fire service.
A spokesman for the team said: “This will significantly increase our effectiveness when responding to water searches, but also means we have a team of technical rescuers who have the confidence, knowledge and ability to safely operate and perform rescues from and around fast moving water.”
